I was thinking about this for a long time. Sorry if it's a :repost: Here is my conslusion:
They are not justified because they are fighting for their dictator, and not their country. If they were fighting for their country, it would be justified and different. I believe the Vietnamese were justified. They wanted independance. But we are clearly not trying to invade and conquer...we are liberating. Whether the Iraqi troops know it or not is another question.
Any thoughts on this? It bothered me for a good portion of the day when I suggested that a person could kill for his country and be justified and someone posed that question to me.

it's war....so that is enough justification.....war isn't supposed to be fair.....i know certain things constitute a "war crime" label, but that's for show more than anything....it's surrender or die fighting....they jumped on an opportunity

Justified as in morally justified. If someone shot at me I'd shoot back, but that doesn't make it right.
These guys have the option of surrendering. That is the fine line...what is the point where you fight instead of surrender? It's not like anything bad will happen if they surrender to us.

what if they surrender and we lose the war (super unlikely but imagine)...what would saddam do to the traitors........that has to be in their heads...as far as moral justification, it has to be thrown out the window for them to have any chance.....they have little, but playing by the rules gives them almost none at all

You're right...the Iraqis are pulling some baaad tricks right now. Dressing up as US army, accepting surrenders from Iraqis and then mass murdering them is not cool :slap:
