keep your nose to the grindstone.

some lady got this on her fortune cookie last night and she asked me and my friends what it meant. we had no idea. anybody know what it means?

 

when youre working hard at sharpening something you put your face down close to examine your work.

otherwise it might mean, "stay sharp and keep your nose clean"

it basically means, "work hard"

Actually I do believe it had to do with the grinding of grains of some sort. If the grinding went too fast it would burn them, thus if you keep your nose close to the grindstone you could smell when it's heating up/burning and take action. It was a tedious boring job.

 

because after 3yrs of making a thread, the posts dont count.
