They start out with a fully solved cube, then run the robot to mess it up, and then run the video backward to make it look like it's solving it.
(Don't know that for sure, but someone had to say it...)

interesting. i hadnt thought of that, but good point. Still awesome they built a robot that can do that kinda shit.

I'm not a robotic expert but I don't see how it would be so hard to programme a robot to solve a rubiks cube 
I remember seeing a software that you put in the different paterns and it tells you exacly what moves to do to solve it...
