Default online stock trading

i have some money in a roth ira with wachovia and i want to transfer it over to an online thing, so i can actually manage it myself and look at it, without having to talk to anyone.

the money i have isn't currently invested in anything, i sold it a while back.

anyone suggest a certain site? etrade? scottrade?

I'd recommend Scottrade to any retail investors. $7 flat fee for any trade while executions are good. TD Ameritrade and Etrade have higher fees. There are cheaper alternatives like Zecco and Sogotrade but I haven't had any experiences with them.

my dad just got a scottrade account and suggested it to me, so i can actually invest the money i have, instead of having it just sit there. figured i'd ask here though. gotta figure out how to transfer the money.

I use Ameritrade. The cost of the transactions doesn't bother me because I signed up for free 100 transactions in the first year. I invested all my money and then let it ride. Now I do about 1 large buy every year for <$10.
