Default google's new phone already having problems

The brand new Google Nexus phone has come under fire just a week after its launch.

Hundreds of customers in the U.S have flooded Google and T Mobile's forums with complaints that the handsets are failing to connect to T Mobile's 3G network and reverts to the carrier's slower EDGE network instead.

Dozens of others have reported glitches with the hi-tech touchscreen where touching one button on the screen would activate a totally unrelated function.

'I cannot believe Google could sell such half-baked device,' said one angry consumer on the Google Nexus forum.

Both T Mobile and Google have posted the same statement on their online forums, which states: Google and T-Mobile are investigating this issue and hope to have more information for you soon. We understand your concern and appreciate your patience.'

The Nexus One was launched with much fanfare on January 5, as a rival to Apple's dominant iPhone.
Technology experts were initially impressed because it has a far more powerful processor, higher spec camera and the latest version of Google's Android software.

But now many users are threatening to return their phones, especially after receiving poor customer service.

Google has also been lambasted by consumers for failing to provide any telephone support.

Instead those having difficulties must send an email and users reported waiting up to three days for any response. This was despite paying up to $529 for a smartphone without a contract.

One dismayed user worth on the forum: 'I was leaning towards the Nexus but with the lack of customer service and the 3G issues along with everything else I am leaning towards the iPhone right now. Google needs to keep the public informed on what you are doing to resolve these issues.'

Instead Google offers a website where Nexus users can help each other and then tells customers to approach HTC for hardware issues and T Mobile for carrier issues.

Technology writer David Coursey told PC World: 'The Nexus One could be a major misstep for Google and, so far, unhappy customers are proving me right.'

That's nothing that a quick firmware update won't fix. People are always quick to complain nowadays.

That is an issue however that I would think they would have tested prior to launch so I don't know what happened there. But if I had owned one, I wouldn't be too worried.

I don't know, but it sounds like more of a T Mobile problem than a device problem.

I hadn't even heard of this phone until this weekend...looks pretty slick. I am sure the problem will be worked out shortly.

I'm quite possibly one of the biggest Google supporters out there due to the way they contribute to the open-source community. I'm even using Android to build a custom automotive entertainment system. However, this is clearly NOT an issue with T-Mobile...this is definitely a hardware problem. But, the customers can't blame Google. It appears as though the blame falls on the device manufacturer. Out of all the Android-powered devices on the market today, this device is the only one that has any issues of that level of severity. Google should have chosen a more reputable electronics company to build their flagship device.
