Default Website vs Fire Dept

HAN, I am in need of help designing the website for my fire department. The current site is @ badenfirerescue.com.. and, well, you can see why I wanted to take charge of it.

What I am working on IS NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT, so please keep that in mind when you criticize things.. I know the banner looks like crap, its not done, and I was just playing with some things to see the general look and whatnot. Also, I am not sure what the final colors are going to be.. so I am open to suggestions.

What I've been focusing on is site functionality, and would appreciate it if you would tell me what you would like to see on a fire dept website.

You can view my current site here: westernpariders.com/bvfd

trying not to fit every fire dept stereotype h:

thanks, doesnt need to be really fancy.. obviously anything is an improvement. functionality and content are the main keys and more will be uploaded (info and pics) as i receive them.. but i need to decide on something for a banner and colors.

umm it looks pretty good. not sure how more "functionality" you're looking for?

as for the banners or other colors, i don't think adding a bunch of rainbow borders will make it any better. i like the simple/plain (in a good way) lay out of the text and such. and with the firetruck banner with flames, i think that's flashy enough

Cool cool, I think Im trying to make it more than it should be.. I am just trying to set it apart from the rest without being cliche or having a stock looking joomla site.. but I think Im on the right track

i don't like that bright bright red bar under the banner. that's the only thing i'd stay away from.

looks like fire departments do have websites. here's the one down the road from me

http://www.dewittfire.org/

not much to compete with.
