No Blu-ray player for Xmas
probably not. cinema 2k, which is around the same as 1080, is pretty much the gold standard right now and h264 is the decoder to use.
best they could do is upgrade the bitrates, but iirc most blu-rays aren't fully tapping out the ones we have.

theres another format out there already, but its really up to tv's to get to a decent price for the resolution for them. it'll happen eventually, not sure when though, since i am no longer in the field of consumer electronics i dont know all the behind the scene stuff anymore lol

My PS3 is one, but I don't feel a need to buy too many BR discs. I still only have one. There are certain movies that I would probably get since I have the capability.. the kind of movies I would go to a theatre for. Pixar, Batman, Harry Potter, anime, other animation.. etc. But some movies it just seems pointless to get in BR form.
