Default question for the verizon wireless users

I went to the verizon store today for a possible upgrade. my choices were the samsung rouge and the LG env touch. i want to avoid a data plan phone since i'm trying to save some money monthly, if that were not the case, i'd just reactivate my BB curve.

i found out the rouge requires a data plan even though it is not a smart phone. some research online seems to confirm this. so i decided to goto the env touch since it's also a non-smart phone. the verizon rep told me as of tomorrow (11/8/09) the env touch along with every other full html browser phone (from here forward, not old phones like my LG dare) will require some type of data plan, even though they are not smartphones.

i cannot find anything online to confirm this, can anyone confirm what she told me is true? or was she just bullshitting me?

Tl;dr/cliffs- are all new verzion phones requiring data plans now?

its true, as off the 8th all multimedia phones (including rogue and env touch) will require a 9.99 data plan or higher on new accounts
the local att store here did the same thing for a while with all qwerty phones, but ordering online or over phone didnt require them
