changing the rest of the worlds opinion is a great step IMO, best anti-terrorist weapon we have
as for the prize, its all media crap regardless, but i do think that the election of obama marked a serious step towards what the piece prize represents, and that is worthy, not necessarily his own doing, but you have to give it to someone

the world def doesnt LOVE the US but at the same time when shit hits the fan the first country they look to is the united states ... so while polls may say the US is so hated its only a mob mentality. when push comes to shove if the US isnt there doing something people bitch even more.

everyone ALWAYS hates the guy on top
it was the way with the romans, the british empire and in 20 years if the chinese somehow find themselves on top they will find themselves disliked just as much
but the truth is once someone needs something they forget they dont like them and will gladly take their aid.
it's human nature to have some sort of hate towards the guy on the top. you see it as an unfair advantage but the fact of the matter is he didnt just land in that spot, he stuck his neck out and stepped up. others could have but he did

I'm very very disappointed with the nobel committee. For science prizes, the research that is currently getting awarded was performed DECADES ago. There has been a LONG period of waiting for us to finally find out what the outcomes of the research were. They don't just hand out the nobel prize to the coolest idea. There is a lot of thought that goes into these prizes and the fact that they did this one preemptively really pisses me off.
For example, the nobel prize in chemistry this year was awarded to those that studied the ribosome, on an idea that was done purely for academic purposes, with no driving force for health. Now their research is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry and has improved QoL for everyone.
