Only did it with work vehicles, when I was working for someone or when I was working for myself. Kept the logs for the tax deductions when I worked for myself, also used the mileage log for charging back to the specific job.

I keep a folder of invoices and receipts for my own records, but that's how I roll with all accounts. Pragmatic like woah.
