If you are jailbroken and want to be able to use the standard MMS, here is how you manually update to ATT 5.5 without having to update to 3.1 and ruining your jailbreak.

all iphone users will be able to enable MMS, but for jailbroken users you have to use the link above. To update carrier info you have to also update to 3.1 firmware through itunes. If you update to 3.1 you lose your jailbreak. The link above allows you to update carrier information without having to update to 3.1.

 

Yeah I almost thought of trying to figure out how to update to MMS without going to 3.1 since I have the tethering hack. I'm just going ahead and doing 3.1 and waiting for someone to re-hack tethering for 3.1.

I hate to say it but I never had to deal with all these restrictions when I had Windows Mobile phones... h:

For now I'll just enjoy the Yelp and Pic2Shop apps that require 3.1 and hope someone hacks tethering for 3.1 before I need to use it.

Otherwise, I'll downgrade back to 3.0 if I need to travel somewhere that tethering would come in handy.
