I did as a child.. I know that's not what you're asking, but we moved from Portland, OR to Pittsburgh, PA. It was for my Dad's job, so we had everything planned out obviously.
Oh yeah, and we drove....

As an adult I moved to Chicago after school (had a place to stay rent-free so that doesn't really count) and then moved to Columbus a couple of months ago (real rent checks and bills). I just flew out here for two days, looked for apartments, found one while I was here and got an application for it and worked out how I would transfer with work and when I would move in to my apt. That's about it. Overall planned yes, but quickly executed

Veen, I was just in Columbus not too long ago. What're you doing these days?

I have done it a few times when I was younger and had less cares or worries. Pretty much picked up and moved.

Did it once right after I got married and moved from MT to AZ with no real plan...never again would I do that it was a nightmare for about the first year. After that things were great for the most part.

Final cross country was AZ to OR and had job offers at the time...moved up here took the best offer and 6 months later the company folded...I hate Oregon.

i never have and i'm not planning on it, but i would definitely have some sort of job setup before moving, personally. i'm trying to move 200 or so miles away to buffalo and finding a job there has me driving there almost every week for interviews. gotta get one soon. when i attempt to move to colorado or utah in two years, i'll revive the thread

now that's a great story.

if i had no debt and a decent ammount of money saved, i would consider moving without a job setup, but it's too sketchy nowadays.
