Default Editing video for a slideshow/presentation question

Anyone ever done this before?

I want to take a John Denver music video and laying images over top/throughout the performance with images for my wedding...anyone know a good (preferably free) program that does this?

Never done video editing before but I am sure there are basic templates, etc to help out. (If millions can do these things on youtube, I am sure I can figure it out )
