Welp, so much for this apartment
Back at the beginning of June I moved out of my buddy's house in suburbia where I'd been renting a room for almost 3 years, to a sweet ass apartment downtown with my girlfriend.
Less than 2 months later she broke up with me. She said she didn't care which of us kept the place, so I elected to move out. It's a sweet apartment in a great location with free heat (huge plus in Wisconsin winters). But it's only big enough for 2 people who are a couple and up in each other's personal space, and my friends all live out in suburbia, not downtown. Without her, it didn't really make sense for me to stay.
Aside from all the shit to do with the breakup, this is getting damned expensive. In the course of 2 months I've gone from cheap-ass rent to somewhat steep rent made reasonable by free heat, to getting slightly gouged for a "luxury" apartment in suburbia where they allow cats.
I'm moving tomorrow. This was all going along semi-amicably until tonight when she discovered the potential prospects I've been talking to since getting dumped. Yay!!!

I had several factors working against me:
- I have a cat
- While I was looking in suburbia, I was trying to be in a particular part of suburbia
- I needed to move on short notice
- I didn't want to live in a shit-hole and/or near a highway
- Wasn't willing to settle for anything less than underground parking
So.........I got the best deal I could find. Even though I booked on short notice I managed to get a slight "discount" because this complex had a few unoccupied units. I have a garage spot, storage unit, it's quiet, it allows cats, it's near my friends, and there's a gym and pool onsite.
What's really going to ding me is buying a couch and some other furniture. My friend who owned the house also owned the furniture, and my ex had furniture already when we moved in.
Yeah, even though she was the one who did the breaking up, I'm pretty sure this is for the best...

my girl is moving two months early to go back to school. her roommate signed her off the lease, which is cool. that roommate is moving out today, which is interesting because she'll be paying rent for her new place and the current two bedroom with no one in it.
