Default Credit protection...your 2 cents?

Hi. Let's say that your information was compromised due to some database leak. They give you this free "credit alert watch" thing for 90 days. After the 90 days, it disappears...so youre basically watching your own stuff from then on. What do you guys think of those credit protection things that you pay for every month...specifically mycreditinform with Capital One? Any opinions? Holla?

fuck those. the best way to protect yourself is to call each reporting agency and put a freeze on your credit. bar none.

this prevents your credit from being used without a specific password which you choose. you do have to pay a small fee to freeze and unfreeze but it's worth it if you know your information has been compromised.

So putting a freeze will prevent new credit from being established right? Current accounts arent affected?

So, there can be no inquiries on your credit which tallies against you? You're notified just who inquired and it has no effect on your fico?

there can be no inquiries on your credit period. you can unfreeze it for a set time period. you're not notified on who inquired, who cares? they will just move on if they are scammers since they can't access your records and no it will not affect your credit score.

I mentioned giving a shit about who's inquiring to see if there was a name or just a number as to who tried to get in. It matters who's inquiring if the inquiries cause your score to go down. I've written many letters to clear up a lot of bogus shit on my credit report. :hs:

So, it blocks inquires, and not regular reporting. Sounds good. You know who you let in and close the door. Nice!
