I am writing to express my interest in the position of Facilities & Event Manager for UCSD. With my experience and excellent capabilities I would appreciate your consideration for this job opening.
My experience in college allowed me to gain a great understanding of theatrical operations from all aspects. Since graduating I was employed by San Diego Opera's Education department where my duties closely resemble your qualifications. Daily tasks included venue inspections, performance deadlines, production/tour calendars, keeping budgets, creating databases of information, problem solving on the road, supervising singers, and many other tasks. Working in the Opera field has allowed me keep a close relationship with music in both the instrumental and vocal disciplines.
I appreciate your taking the time to review my credentials and experience. Thank you for your consideration for this job. I look forward to hearing from you.

But maybe "working with the Opera" as opposed to "working in the opera".
It's personal preference.. but i like reading the prior better.

application has been sent in. I wanted to get on this quick as it can get swamped with applications. Tomorrow is the deadline for inter-office applications and getting it in with that crew gives better chances, imo.
