Laid off crew
Sorry bro. You must understand that it's a blessing. You'll soon be in a better place if you turn your energies out instead of in.
First, file for unemployment benefits. Have no shame. You paid taxes for all of that unlike most recipients.
Next, get into a Higher Education job. You don't have to be an instructor. Hit up the colleges in your area, preferably the private ones, and if you can find something available that you can do, it's infinite job security with free education benefits and they're always hiring. State colleges might get funding cuts that could affect the work force, but the private ones aren't subject to this because they operate off of endowments and far-greater tuition costs. Hit the private ones first.
I got laid off at the end of 2007, and that's where I went. After 15 years in corporate america, I now realize this is where I should have been all along. They appreciate the fact that I paid my dues in the real world first... but best of all, they don't only say they support self-development (unlike almost all other corporate jobs say but don't do) they actually do it. They don't reimburse, they pay up-front I've had over $5000 dollars worth of training and certification testing in the past year. You can become so qualified to do your job that they can't afford to fire you even if you're lazy. There is no job security anywhere else.
Please have some self-respect and don't work for the gub'mint.
