Default Ubuntu Crew - Contact Info

Who here is available for me to harass about Ubuntu. I am upgrading my old gaming PC. It's old dated and ready to be retired. It's a Biostar NF325-A7 running 1GB of Ram and an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Processor.

I want to make it a server that will host all my media, pictures, and music as well as applications. School me on what to do, and be forewarned, i'm a n00b at linux so i'll probably be harassing you once I get the PC up and running. It's probably going to host roughly 2TB of information after a while.

For gaming. Jasmine is currently using it to play the SIMS 3, but if you turn the visual settings from low to medium it friggin CRAWLS. So i have a new build with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and 4GB of memory with a 9600GT video card so i'm hoping I can bump all the settings to high and it runs smooth. If not, i'm going to scrap the card and shoot for a better one or get a 2nd one and run them in SLI mode. Which I really should do from the start since they're so cheap. ($26 AR)

Play it safe and stick to Server 03. I think they have some home server for just what you want to do.

That said i've only seen Ubuntu in action.

I was thinking Server but a buddy of mine told me that with the hardware I have, it might be a bit of a strain on the PC and since ubuntu uses less resources over windows that I should stick with that.

I also saw there was a server edition of ubuntu so i'm looking into that as well.

Server 2000? I think you will be fine with 03. The requirements are really low and it's not like you will have a lot of traffic.
