I feel, like you said, we'll start seeing more of this. I just wonder how the police and court system will handle it. I wonder if we'll see things happening to people for example that are selling drugs on the corner.
To be honest with you I think it will begin to overrun their capacities and by the time they swing into action to increase police presence it will be too late. The money is already short so hiring new officers is at a standstill in many places and in others layoffs have been happening. Decreased police presence leads to lack of enforcement which leads to lack of faith in the system and rapid decline from there.

Seen it happen historically speaking and it is a very similiar pattern to current trends.

just because he's a person of interest that doesnt mean he still isnt innocent until proven guilty. if they had said this IS the guy who did it fine but they said he was wanted for questioning. now he has a right to sue those people for the assault. its one thing to detain someone under citizens arrest but a complete nother for a group of people to assault him in the street.
Wait till your 11 year old gets raped.

Too bad they didnt kill this guy.

You know as well as I do that thousands of criminals a year walk on technicalities, and innocents have served prison time...the system fails.

i'm not arguing that

i'm arguing the fact that these people assaulted someone based on the fact that he was a 'person of interest'

they had no information on his previous history

that's plain and simply wrong. you cant pick and choose which parts of the american system you want to uphold. innocent until proven guilty needs to be protected

furthermore, this guy now has a BETTER chance of leniency or walking or a case being thrown out if they decide he did it simply because he was assaulted by a group of private citizens. the assault could play into the defenses hand easily

I find great irony in your statement coupled with your signature... you quote a great person who was basically a helping founder of the system... and say it fails in your text. I agree - it is flawed - but don't like it, live elsewhere.

Edit:

And on Vigilante Justice - I feel it should be servered to those who are guilty, but are left off on a technicality or light sentence.

What???? Yea the system fails when you let criminals go, no reason to move, its a reason to change it to what the founders thought it should be.

Which is a great idea - one I'd love to see adopted... but rarely is bitching on a forum the way to see this realised... although in this day and age - sometimes it does work. If this was the point of the thread, spurring people to create change - then I apologise. But if the thread was just to mindlessly bitch about a problem and not offer a solitution, then what good is it?

Honestly I dont think it was a thread spurred to bitch and moan or talk about change. I think it was supposed to be a discussion about this guys ass kicking.
