I got an email about it. why would a company buy a dead company?

People know the name. That's what they payed for.

It's way better than trying to make "tom's supermarket" a household name.

they do it all the time, The Wiz is still around, cablevision bought them IIRC as a pre-cursor to their online store

Systemax bought the Circuit City trademarks and domain name for $6.5 million. They also did the same thing with CompUSA. Otherwise they already run TigerDirect. Look at al three websites, you'll see they're basically the same. I guess they figure they will get enough business from people who go looking for CompUSA or Circuit City who don't otherwise know about TigerDirect. :dunno:

online only, and like everyone said its just for name recognition. but over the final 3 years after their large layoff of their higher paid employees, their reputation went downhill, but in america i know they have more exposure then tiger
