componet and vga are the same they are both analog, DVI and HDMI are digital

Yep, I believe other brands worked fine with it.....Panasonic seemed not to be supportive on this nor enable their component inputs to run 1080p, unless they've changed it in the past year.

OTOH I know for sure Sharp Aquos components are 1080p friendly
