the new suzuki wagon has awd and is less then the toyota.

Persnally I'd go for the Legacy 2.5GT rather than Outback 2.5XT. Same engine and body shell, but better handing and no goofy wannabe-SUV body cladding. '07 was the last year for the 2.5GT wagon though so you would have to go used.

I'd buy one, and the springs/shocks from the other and switch out the suspension for winter use

Hmm...no manual transmission available in the Vensa 4 (or 6) banger or the Legacy GT wagon...phooey sez I.
