in the market for a new, decently price and decent quality walk-around lens.

there are a few 28-135 f3.5-5.6(?) on POTN for around 260

are these good lenses?

i was between that and a 17-85 f4-5.6 but i'm thinking i might end up wanting a bit more reach.

and no, i dont want to buy several lenses.

28-135 will get your decent wide and telephoto reaches but you will want that extra 10mm wider and 65mm further reach. I would LOVE to have an 18-200. They make it but I would have to pay $600 for it.

The speed of that 28-135 is darn good also.

28 isn't wide enough for me (with the crop factor), so I would try to go wider.

if you want one with a lot of zoom, take a look at sigma since they're more compact.

Sigma 18-200, been using it for a while and won't go anywhere without it.
