I agree. Although sometimes winning can be losing.

If you have to fight for your rights, and get nothing in return other than not having case law against you.

You can still be out thousands of dollars.

It's pretty bad when private people have to fight for the rights given in the Bill of Rights.

[I'm an Obama supporter, though I may not fall into the liberal category.] Despite me thinking that guy is probably a douche (seems that many w/ bumper stickers, etc. like that are, whichever way it goes), the cop was wrong to do it. I don't think he should sue, at least I wouldn't, but he has the right to... since the department acknowledged the mistake, a simple apology should suffice for the guy who was wronged - otherwise he really shouldn't be calling himself a Christian imo

This may be be a bit of a derailment, sorry in advance.

I recently saw the movie V for Vendetta. If you've seen it, what was your overall opinion of it's message? I mean this seriously and with respect.
I had mixed feelings (esp. prior to seeing it) but ultimately liked it and agreed with it's message overall - with some reservations.

I didn't just PM this to him b/c I think it applies to the theme of the thread enough, and I'd be interested in other people's take on that movie as well.

The point of the story and Jesse's post is simple. If the government has no reason to fear it's people (no arms, dependance, etc) then the government can and, as we've learned in history, will trampled over the rights if it's citizentry and take advantage of them as they see fit.
