On my way home about a 1/2 hour ago some idiot came flying past me in the left lane, tried to move into the right lane where a car was getting ready to move into a turning lane, realized he didn't have enough room to slow down, swerved back into the left lane and almost rear ended a car before he swerved back into the right lane and slammed the brakes..

I caught up to him and it was 3 punks (what they dressed like - 2 males, 1 female) in a banged up escort. Buncha idiots.

well thats why you have insurance and as long as the rest of your history is ok, even a large pay out under collision shouldnt rape the cost of your policy to badly. Though with the extent of the damage its very likely the insurance company hands you a check rather then ask you for the keys. Good news is , you can buy the car back and probably make some money parting the thing out
