I'd really be interested in something that'll take a DivX / XviD file and convert it to MP4. :hi5:

I'm really on the fence about making one, it'd probably entail creating d2v files for DVD's but should eventually support:

AVI/data input
Multi-cores
Quality Multi-passes (to a selectable Nth number of encodes)
Advanced bitrate selection
and pretty much anything the command line x264 utilizes

I could also make profile batches that will automatically convert to preset default sizes and such

I'm not sure if I want to deal with the AVS scripting though, last I checked most GUI's used a Vfw codec for x264 which wasn't up to par.... I'm testing MeGUI right now to see if it fits what I want... if not it's on to making the CLI batch

:edit:

looks like MeGUI might be saving me some work

:edit:

once I get a successful encode done I'll toss you guys a tutorial... hopefully this uses x264.exe vs. the Vfw (looks like it does)

uhh...geek says wha???

:fawk:

Let me know when you get it up and running as well. I have a convertor but it's a "rip and run" type program and I want to convert existing files instead since I am laptop bound right now.

Yeah MeGUI seems pretty comprehensive- if you want to start right now

grab it from doom9, then toss the contents of this zip file into your system, system32 and megui/tools/enc_aacplus/ folders

To rip DVD's you must:
1) use your favorite ripper (mine is DVD decrypter) and decrypt it to a folder
2) create a d2v file in MeGUI (pretty much just a file joining the VOB's)
3) create an AVS file in MeGUI (this is where you set cropping, noise filtering, rezising etc)
4) select your audio track and [after you set up your profile] hit 1-click

sounds annoying but it's fairly automated if you just remember what step goes next-

I prefer doing things this way because I can select a bunch of bitrate/filesize components, say for fitting 3 movies on a DVD or having a set rate; you can also set the AVS file to resize the movie to the exact resolution of the screen (this saves a lot of quality for portable devices)

AVI's on the other hand just start at the AVS stage... allows you to crop out anything that shouldn't be there such as black bars and whatnot

I'm running an encode right now using my laptop as a space heater of sorts h:

if and when I get the video running on my PS3 I'll post up a more detailed run-through

but god i hate the Interface on a BB. everyone i know that has it never want to go on internet with it cause the screen is so fucking tiny. web navigation sucks on the BB. the keyboard is kind of cool but really once you get used to the iphone keyboard you're good to go.
you can add plenty of crap into contact with firmware 2.0+

then add whatever they have (including bday, job title, company, note, etc)
