Rule #1. Don't buy a new car if you don't have a job h:

she has a job. and a ridiculous amount of school loans to pay back. she's gonna be livin' on a very tight budget for the next couple years

her boss like set her up at saturn of syracuse yesterday because he is friends with the manager. we drove an 07 ion. things are weird, gauge cluster is in the middle.

i would never buy a saturn personally and the options of cars they have sucks, but we figured we'd go because we figure the guy would be cool with us and we've never done this before.

her dad has 3,000 GM points.. i don't know if that's $3,000, or points or what, but she can use those. she also can get a discount for just graduating on a GM and jesse told me yesterday that if you trade in a '99 or newer GM towards another GM you get $3,000 off the top. i gotta look into that last one right now.

saturns may not be fancy or the prettiest but they are reliable and cheap and parts for them are cheap and plentiful. go see what she can get on a 08 impala or malibu, there are dealers dying to offload those at such redic low prices. and if you can get the extra 3k deals then its gonna be hard to argue the price.

and have her take a look at the HHR ... yea yea lots of people hate on them but ive spent some time in the one my dad drives and i like it and it has like zero options lol. they even have a SS version now and those things have sooo much room inside and get great mileage and are comfy to drive imo

impala and malibus are too big for her. she wants something smaller.

i told her to look at the vibe and cobalt. didn't even think about the hhr (forgot they existed).

i think we might go to her bank first today and see if they can loan her the money instead of her paying the dealership every month.

Whats happening. I'm still a little sore from a shredding trip me and some friends took on MLK. The conditions were definitely on point and I'm only in pain because I grew confident enough to start taking jumps and doing more in the terrain park. Let's just say I need to work on my landings. h:

Oh and just topped off my tires on the Z a minute ago. Damn cold weather.

If she has good credit do your research before going in on the actual value of the car. Or if shes buying new, getting it out the door at or very close to invoice wouldn't be a problem. Being pre-approved for a set dollar amount by your bank is a good idea too. They really can't d**k you around if you have your own financing.

cobalts are only so so ... the SS is the only one i would consider, the LS and LT trims just bug me :dunno:

as for financing, i think the best rates right now are AT the dealerships ... if she has good enough credit.

and yea i like the HHR especially now that they have the SS
