but dont worry ur lil heart ... i was set to go but my final screening before signing the papers showed my back issues and after they tested more they decided it wasnt in their best interests to let me join.

i didnt say it was in MY best interest ... i just said it wasnt in their best interests to let me join. given the condition with my back theres a chance it could go out randomly for no reason ... strap on 60lbs of gear and put me in a firefight and im a big liability
but as for me, it's what i always wanted to do, ever since i can remember :dunno:
no it does not mean US citezins will HAVE to join. it just gives the government power to pick people from the population to serve in the army.
this is different than say Israel or Taiwan where you HAVE to serve in the military for x amount of months/years. In Taiwan/South Korea, it's male only, in Israel both male and female. There are some exceptions to the rule but pretty much everyone serves.

in egypt you have to serve for 6 months... they couldn't get me because i got my canadian citizenship :rick:
But I can't help but think about the alarming percentage of veterans who come back from the war and suffer from post traumatic stress, who commit suicide, become alcoholics, live on the streets etc. etc. And that's even if you do come back, there's is a chance you could get killed out there (unless you pull an LT and join the air force).
I had an internship last year in an ad agency that handles the Canadian Forces account. The ads they show on TV all promote peacekeeping missions, drug busts and rescue missions to get people to join the army. They don't tell you you're most likely going to get shipped in Afghanistan to fight a (IMO) bs war.
Sorry to ramble on like that but I often wonder about these things and why people decide to join the army. And how people who join the army are often (not always) the poorer kids, the ones who dropped out of school, the peeps who don't have much to lose, the small town guy or people with low income.
It's sad but the lower class of society always fights the wars the rich create.
Just some thoughts.
Your dream growing up kinda thing. I get that, plus I'm sure you get paid pretty well and there must be some good benefits to joining the army.
