set your router for DHCP then reset your modem. if it doesn't work call camcasts help line and they will be an automated reset over the phone.

What O/S do you have? He may have set up your laptop with a static IP. Start -> Settings -> Network Connections -> Double click on your connection -> Select the support tab, and tell us what the addres type says. Could be assigned by DHCPS, or Static. If it is static you have to transfer the IP and subnet mask, DNS servers and all that info to the router.

they could be like cox cable in which they bind the mac address in the dhcp server. you have to call if your mac address changes.

yep they do but once the modem is reset remotely, it will bind to the new mac address, which is why i told him to call and have his modem reset.
