Just ordered a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 HSM from amazon yesterday. It should fit well with my Nikon D50, Sigma 24-60 f/2.8, and Nikkor 50mm f/1.8.
I really wanted the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (to keep my lens collection more suited to low light), but it was ~$150 more, and the extra range will be appreciated.
Also, the low light via larger aperture isn't really appropriate for wide angles, as at 10mm, 1/10 shutter speed will be enough to remove motion blur from camera movement. 1/focal length for shutter speed applies.
I'm really looking forward to it. I replaced my 18-55 kit lens with a Sigma 24-60 f/2.8, and i must say that 24mm on a DX sensor is not wide enough for many. I'm really looking forward to adding perspective as an element to my photos. I've been craving a wide angle forever, and money to go towards it is all i asked for from my family.
Also, this lens seems to continuously drop in price. When I first started looking at wide angles, it was in the $475-500 range. Then, I looked again a few months later, and it was down to $450. Amazon has it now for $414, which is ~$15 cheaper than it was 6 days ago.
Just got an email from UPS stating that it will be here friday. Seen alot of new interesting landscapes popping up around here due to the weather, and coupled with my new tripod and wireless remote, I should be out shooting a bunch this weekend. Sucks I have to work friday and saturday. Oh well, sunday here I come.
Next step is to get a D80. Been seeing them used for insanely cheap ever since the D90 came out. No, it's not as smooth as the D50 at ISO 1600, but I don't think the D50 is all that smooth itself. The tons of extra features and larger, much better LCD will be a welcome improvement over the D50.
Anyone looking for a mint D50?
cliffs - ordered sigma 10-20, gonna be here friday. me=super pumped.

Congrats!! I just picked up a lightscoop - flash bounce for the onboard flash. It works INCREDIBLE!!!
here's a photo I shot in the living room right now with NO lights on (Except for the Christmas tree - living room has a 20 foot vaulted ceiling.) So much better than my home made solutions.
I didn't process these at all - right out of the camera

So you use it with the stock pop up flash and not a separate flash?
