No, they don't use special ram. The last time I checked PC2700 ram was much more expensive than the newer stuff.

And I think the biggest draw with mac users is the long-term functionality and usability. There are some functions like Expose ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposé_(Mac_OS_X) ) that I just can't live without.
I OSX feels too much like linux to me... I might as well be using openSuse

a gig of ram isn't just a gig of ram, speed and types vary, but since you already have ram it makes sense to just get more matching ram

as much as i dislike mac's i think im gonna ask they get me a macbook instead of another thinkpad when its my turn to upgrade at work ... i prefer workin on them for photoshop and indesign ... i'll keep the thinkpad for everything else
