Default Microsoft sponsored Xbox 360 Storage upgrade program

http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com/hh...entication.jsp

If you purchased a Core or Arcade system, Microsoft is offering a free 512mb memory card or refurbished 20GB HDD for $20. This is being done because the NXE (New Xbox Experience) that launches tomorrow requires 128MB of space to run.

The avatars are a 360 marketing thing. Microsoft wants the Nintendo crowd ... Nintendo claims to have "the Halo fanbase" in the fold by Q4 2009.

Besides the avatars, you're able to now install games onto the HDD. The average title runs 6.5GB, so 120GB owners will finally have some purpose behind the space. 20GB users will be nearly at capacity after 1 game. (the 360 has 10GB occupied out of the box)

By having the game installed, noise is drastically reduced. No more cheap-o dvd-rom spinning at a frantic 12X.

Meh Nintendo has no hope of drawing the H3 crowd or any serious crowd away from the XBX or even from PS3. Anyone who has gamed for at least one generation of consoles knows that Nintendo sucks for longevity of platform and game offerings to the mature audience.

Nintendo has been smoking way too much crack.

There are ways to upgrade the HDD past the 120GB mark using a PC and Norton's Ghost. I'm not sure if that's on Microsoft's list of things to check when slamming the XBL ban hammer though.

From what I've read, it is.
I bought a 120GB off Ebay already anyway. With the 20GB drive, I'd only be able to install one game at a time. :hs:

if the eBay one doesn't work out for ya, check your local Target. The 120GB HDD can no longer be reordered / stocked, so they clearanced whatever they have. It's currently 30% ($125.98) or 50% (89.98) off.

Check every Monday to see if it finally made the leap to 75% off, or $44.98
