it reads fuel air mixture post combustion and communicates to the ecu to alter fuel flow based on the level of oxygen left.
crapped out ecu = system guesses and you are going to use excess fuel and get poor performance

Ahh poop, i hope it's not that, I'm 3 months away from getting a new car and the last thing i want to do is dump more money into this car 
Hopefully it's an easy fix because with this move, i can't afford mechanic fees and such

jae hardest part about doin an 02 sensor is generally getting to it since they are usually on the top side of exhaust pipes or up by manifolds
replacing them is quite simple, as long as they arent rusted in.
