Boxing Day is a nifty concept ... it's literally the day where people Box up their Holiday decorations.
The US needs one because a guy down the street still has his Xmas lights up from 07. On top of it, the dumb ass flips the wrong switch from time to time and turns them on.

The other part of the original Boxing Day was the day masters or lords of the house would give gifts to their servants and people, because all of Christmas Day they would be serving the bossman.

It's turned into the Black Friday or whatever sales like the US has... but thats not what it was originally.
