Default Laptop Battery

I woke up this morning, and tried to boot my X60, no go. I had to plug it in to get it working.

Now it shows 98% charge, but if i hover over the little battery icon it says "irreperable damage to the battery detected, replace with a new one"

What the crap could have happened? it was sitting on a desk all night.

power surge that is big enough to damage the battery logic will easily fry the laptop not to mention the ac charger.

my guess is that it's just a bad battery. aren't ibms/lenovos warranted for 3 years?

Could be, I got it from a co-worker about a year ago.
