I feel we need to respect the environment. Global warming or not.

Pick up your fucking trash and make some conscious choices in life.

There is no denying that humans have fucked up more than it's share of eco-systems and destroyed many habitats.

Keep it clean fellas.

i saw this show on discovery about this subject. they went to the artic and dug deep into the ice to pull out layers of snow and counted them kinda like rings on a tree.

there conclusion was that some layers were bigger and smaller than others meaning that the climate for the earth is inconsistent. ie longer summers = hotter with smaller rings and longer winters = cooler with bigger rings.

those are called core samples

I think they had the show later on where they talked about covering the ice caps with material to slow down the effect

Exactly, the earth has a natural rise and fall of temperature.

After spending months studying waterway flow charts of the last 300 years for a company I worked with you would notice the same types of changes. When it was a warmer or drier year you had less flow and vice versa for wetter years or heavy snowfall years.

the problem now is we are basically micro-managing these observations where we watch such minute changes happen it ends up setting off alarmists and worst case scenarios throughout the land.

sometimes too much knowledge is a bad thing and it needs to be tempered with a historical view of at least 100 years data to come to a conclusion.

Science is still a guessing game so a difinitive conclusion still has a lot of room for error.

There's no doubt that the global warming pop-culture is out of hand but hey, it can't hurt to use less fuel and resources. The small amount of hippy in me tries to see the silver lining behind all the global warming hype in that at least we're trying to go more "green" as a society.

But yes, I agree that there is more interest in money than the environment when it comes to global warming. Every major corporation is "going green" now, and it obviously has more to do with image than true interest in the environment. And guys like Al Gore, honestly, do you think Al Gore has gone though all the effort and time because he cares about the environment? I'm sure he cares for it, as much as the next American, but I doubt it's much more than that. It's all about the benjamins.

So yes, use less fuel and resourses and try to recycle. Carpool a bit or consolidate your trips. But don't go out and trade in your Accord for a Prius so you can get an extra 10mpg. That's a friggin crock.
I agree we need to conserve and find alternatives...in fact I believe it enough to wager my livlihood in that industry in fact.

But the knee-jerk reactions do little to nothing to bring about viable solutions to the reliance on our natural resources and overuse of them. Part of the issue is overpopulation to be honest. seriously if everyone back in the days was living to the age of 45-50 but the average has now jumped to 75-80 this changes the amount of people and resources used in a persons lifetime.

Paving over what used to be farmland and tree growth helps even less. Sprawling cities takes it's toll as well.

Are we too far to make an effective change? Probably not but are people willing to abandon the large city lifestyle in exchange for a more conservation minded approach? Hardly likely, in fact most people would have no clue how to survive without the use of these resources in everyday life.
