A Canadian study has found that too much thinking can make you fat.
Researchers at the University of Laval in Quebec found the stress of onerous mental tasks such working on the computer can contribute to obesity.
Dr. Angelo Tremblay and his team measured the food intake of students after three tasks - relaxing in a sitting position, reading and summarizing text, and completing a series of memory, attention and vigilance tests on computers.
Despite the low energy cost of mental work, the students consumed 203 more calories after summarizing a test and 253 more calories after the computer tests.
Blood samples taken before, during, and after each session revealed that intellectual work causes much bigger fluctuations in glucose and insulin levels than rest periods.
Caloric overcompensation following intellectual work, combined with less physically active when doing intellectual tasks could contribute to the obesity epidemic currently observed in industrialized countries, researchers concluded.
Next study: Are computer chips fattening?

Yeah... all 6'2" and 183 lbs of me.
Seriously, where do these twits get their funding?
Is wasteful spending compulsory up there?
h:
The only thing close to a revelation in that study is that sedentary people tend to overeat.
How startling... :screwy:

Yeah I would like to know that too, but first I have to come up with some useless study to get funded..
