Police banned from wearing reflective sunglasses
Police have been banned from wearing mirrored sunglasses as part of an attempt to tidy up their uniform.

Officers in Essex have been told to stop wearing the Miami Vice-style reflective sunglasses and stick to regular pairs.
Even when they are wearing the regular glasses, they must make sure they remove them when talking to members of the public so they can make eye contact.
The force has outlawed scruffy PCs, warning they should dress smartly and maintain high standards of personal hygiene to help improve the image of officers in the department.
It is a far cry from TV shows like CSI: Miami where David's Caruso's cool character Horatio Caine is constantly pictured in his trademark shades, while Gene Hunt from Life On Mars would probably take exception to the smart dress rule.
Staff have been mindful that certain hairstyles may cause offence and may send out the wrong message.
Hair colourings and tints have been banned, while accessories and jewellery should be kept to a minimum as well as discreet due to health and safety - they may cause injury in "conflict management situations".
Male officers have been told not to wear earrings, while anyone with offensive tattoos must cover them up at all times.
Spokeswoman for Essex Police Donna Veasey said: "New recruits are educated as to how their uniform should be worn and about their manner and conduct.
"A force policy is in place which sets out the guidelines. All personnel must project high standards of personal appearance and hygiene - a smart professional image."
The Essex police guidelines follow a behavioural clampdown by Norfolk Police, where officers have been banned from sporting designer stubble and using their mobile phones in public.

I don't mind it. Actually, one of the nice parts about Europe is that the cops are respectable people (in everywhere except Italy
h: ) Having them remove their glasses and seem more human is good IMO.
In Denmark,Germany, England, and Ireland, the cops are actually genuinely nice in my experience.

It's only common courtesy to remove your sunglasses when you talk to someone. To me it wouldn't matter that they wear mirrored sunglasses but they should refrain from wearing vividly colored lenses. If the department really wants to control what the officers wear then the department should issue sunglasses as part of the uniform.

I'm not surprised at all. I've read that the same is behind the reason motorcycle cops don't use fullface helmets...and that's something that would be more important to an officer's safety than reflective sunglasses in my opinion. The sections you highlighted make perfect sense to me. :dunno:
I think too many people don't know how to clean up and dress for their jobs anymore. They'd rather stick "ocho cinco" on their backs or something.
