The manual suggested plugging in the power/data cord AND the power cord port ) to the computer (Never had to do that before. :dunno: ) and wait up to two minutes. Doing that now.

Wow, I was working on my friend's external HD that had the same exact problem. Jae even stepped into help but we both concluded the partition took a dump. It also didn't show up on the desktop and the only evidence that the computer sensed it was in the BIOS and the Drive Manger classified as a "Disk Drive". I even cracked it up open and connected it via IDE and it still didn't work

Testing it on my computer again
it's a power issue.
if the HDD doesn't have its own power source, this means that the notebook PC doesn't have enough juice to run it. You'll need a powered USB hub to make it read.
if the HDD does have its own power source, try a different outlet.
