Default different speed hard drives

say i have a 10krpm hdd and a 7.2krpm hdd running in the same machine
do they spin at the lowest speed hdd or at their highest capable speeds?

even in a raid configuration one drive will not slow down to the slower speed of the other. these days with hdds seek speeds being so fast they don't need to be synchronized in any way.

Why would they spin any different? Separate hard drives.

Does HDD speed affect performance THAT much? Or is it really only beneficial in higher size HDD's?

depends what you're doing. if you're constantly reading/writing, such as a SAN environment, then yes. if you're just doing normal avg joe stuff, then not really.
