Thanks homeslice! What do you think the next logical step up in lens would be.. I don't need a crazy telephoto.. I was even thinking of maybe a wide angle since I mostly will shoot just the kid.

for wide go for the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 runs about $450 this lens is as close asyou can get to a canon L lense with out spending $900 up also go for the budget 50 which is the canon 50mm 1.8 which you can find for $45-$60

It's a great lens. The only other one I have right now besides the 18-55 kit on my XTi but it's really great for as cheap as it is. Oh, and Lightroom FTW. That's what I've been using lately. And that last shot you posted is great.
