Report: Ex-Sonics now “Thunder”

The former Seattle SuperSonics are being renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to media reports.
Local television station KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, citing an unnamed source close to the team’s ownership group, said the Sonics will be called Thunder.
The National Basketball Association team is headed to Oklahoma next season as part of a deal negotiated between the Seattle city government and the team’s Oklahoma-based ownership group.
The settlement ended an acrimonious lawsuit between the city of Seattle and the team’s owners. Under the terms of the deal, the team was granted an early exit from its KeyArena lease in exchange for $45 million with an additional $30 million under certain circumstances.
