Default Health Insurance?

Does anyone buy health insurance outside of their work?

Where are good places to look? I've looked a little and I'm not liking what I see so far. $163/mo for $500 deduct with $15 co-pay for a 24 and 22 year old :ugh:.

That sounds pretty cheap actually. Family insurance through my last job was $900 / month for a family. thankfully they paid almost all of it.

Welcome to the market.

Blue Shield PPO:
I'm paying about $1300 a year for $500 deductable, myself only.
Co pay varies from $0 to $30 depending on provider and field.

Jesus.
h:

More was taken out of my pay when a company covered me at an identical rate. It probably had more to do with the kind of work I did and the commensurate level of risk.

Nowadays... since I work on contract, I can't afford to have gaps in coverage when I'm between jobs. It's a small price to pay compared to the alternative.

contact your local insurance broker and ask. quotes are free. they can compare premiums and coverage differences between several carriers.

Yea, I have. Local people are usually a lot more than online.

It's insane to think that you can literally spend $400-500/mo in insurance easy.
