Default car insurance question.

About a month and a half ago I was hit on my motorcylce by a car. completely her fault but I wasn't realy injured and the bike was only slightly damaged.

I got an estimate of 184.50 for the damage from a honda dealer. The parts are no longer available so they couldn't really do the repairs. I got tired of waiting for the insurance company get their shit together and so I got the parts from ebay/ salvage yards and spent my time repairing the bike. I was just talking the the ins. Comapny and they asked if I had gotten the bike repaired and I said yes, they then told me I need to send them any invoices or receipts I have for the parts.

I don't want to send them the reciepts from ebay and the salvage yard because then they will just try to lowball me. The orignal estimate and pictures of the bike after the wreck should be enough for them right? I am not required to give them any invoices if i am not asking for anything over the original estimate right?

I should not be penalized for being mechanically inclined. I just want my 184.50.

tell a mechanic friend to hook you up. you should have gotten it fixed professionally.

If you send in the invoice from the estimate, and they reimburse you for that amount, you're commiting insurance fraud.

If you feel like risking it for a lousy $200, then go right ahead.

I guess I could just put the bent parts back on, take it to a shop and give them the "new" parts to put on...

Because that isn't what you paid to have it fixed. The insurance company is not at fault for your impatience.

:hsdunno: I dunno about that. My insurance took my estimates, then paid me. I didn't have to get it fixed.

I don't think that's right, I've gotten insurance checks before where there didn't seem to be any expectation that I was going to use it to fix the vehicle.

Yeah, I've always gotten an quote, gotten paid, and done it myself. They pay to have it repaired to like new. If you want to use used parts and save money, that's your deal.

Find a mechanic to write you a bill... Or print out cost for OEM parts, document your labor, and send that in.
