Default Laptop krew...Sony??

Is this a decent deal? I'm looking for a laptop to use when I go on trips, while sitting on the couch, and one that I can use for video golf lessons. What do you guys think?

Almost the exact same one I have.

Things I like:
15.4" WXGA TFT-LCD widescreen display with XBRITE-ECO - The screen looks like glass.

2GB PC2-5300 DDR2 memory for multitasking power, expandable to 4GB - The 4gb max is a very nice option. My machine came with a stock 512, up to 2GB. After the memory upgrade, the machine works very well. I'm using it for some pretty CPU intensive stuff (audio processing with Adobe Audition) and not a snag.

i.LINK (IEEE 1394) port and 4 USB 2.0 ports for fast digital video, audio and data transfer; Memory Stick PRO with MagicGate functionality and Secure Digital card slots - There are slots all over on this PC. The front-side card readers are extremely convenient, and the USB 2.0 ports are placed in good spots

Lithium-ion battery and AC adapter; 2 hours, 59 minutes of battery life - This isn't bad at all. I've extended mine to the 3h 20m mark by muting the sound, dimming the screen, and turning on the "power saving" mode.

Things I don't like:
The machine is pre-loaded with crap. Grifter posted a "de-crapping" / "un-crapping" utility earlier. This has to be run as soon as your laptop is turned on. There's so much garbage pre-installed.

Otherwise, the processors are strong, the stock memory is high, and there's a DVD-RW on it. All the good stuff.

As far as "the deal" part ... $530 is a very fair price for a laptop with these specs. I was able to purchase mine a bit cheaper, but only because it was on some super de-stock clearance.

Can't you just format it and reinstall Windows?

It'll reset the machine back to its factory state, completely crapped up.

Before this laptop (2008), the last one I owned was purchased in 2003. Back then, I got a full suite of discs including Windows XP. Now, there's no restore discs. Everything is held somewhere on the PC. : X

Oh really?

o:

$599 seems to be the cheapest price anyone has seen for this particular model number, from what I've read on the interweb...it's more expensive everywhere else.
