is there any way to turn off the EDGE / 3G on these ones? I only want to use WiFi on it and not pay a ridiculous amount for internet on one device.

I'm not an AT&T user so I'm sticking with my old iphone. Until they can have these online for cheap, w/o activation required.

 

Yeah but either way you are getting unlimited data because you have to get the $30 data plan. So there is really no point to shutting it off.

 

seriously? i've had smartphones from AT&T for the past 3 years and never required a data plan. I would like to slap the shit out of someone over there.

 

Yeah it's pretty dumb. Not only that but they bumped the price of the data plan up from $20 to $30 since the last iPhone model. I think they did it to compensate for the low price point that the phone is offered at. With a 2 year contract you end up paying $240 more for the data plan which I believe Apple gets a cut of.
