My departure from my parent's house was more about my mom giving me a 6 month deadline to get a job and move out once I got back home from college h:

i moved out when i was 18

i had a choice

1. stay at the parents and pay rent plus have all my weekly chores and whatnot
2. move out on my own

never regretted moving out once. my relationship with my parents improved 10 fold in the process and why would i want to pay my parents rent when i could pay rent for my own place

for a lot of kids, me included, being broke and independant > strained family relationships and the same rules when you were a minor while paying rent

Staying at home had its disadvantage, but i was saving mad bucks. I was also giving my parents money in the process. That is how I afforded my house.

well see both of you had obligations....but im talking if your rents let you stay for free and everyone gets along...no need to move out so quickly

i wish i would've saved more while i was living with my grandparents. i took being rent-free for granted, and wasted it all. i probably could've had a house by now if i did it right.
