Default Computer Crew! V.newVideoCard

I have an AMD board with a build in ATI video-chipset (which is awesome for being onboard video, plays WoW pretty well)

i want to buy a video card for it and i've narrowed down my choices to the 9600GT and the Radeon 3870.. both are the same price... same performance (almost).

my question to you is:

Should i buy the ATI card thinking it would be more compatible with my mobo set up? note: if i install an ATI card i can use the onboard gfx for an extra monitor.

Should i buy the nvidia card knowing that it preforms 1.2% better in certain situations (with AA/AF on) and about 0.8% worse in other situations (AA/AF off) and its also about 2 dollars cheaper.. lol.

h: LINKS:

3870

9600

thanks

8800 GT has more stream processors 112 vs 64 of the 9600.

The XFX branded one is the same price is the 9600 you listed and a far better card. The XFX has no rebate while the 9600 has a MIR.

Nvidia jumping to the 9xxx naming convention when the 9 series uses the same architecture as the 8 series was kind of weak.

To answer your question about using onboard and pc-e, no you can't run both, unless you have a AMD 780 chipset on your motherboard.

Not sure what ATI card you need though to run hybrid, nor how it works firsthand.

he isnt talking about SLI or the like, he wants to run dual monitor using the onboard and the add in card. he can certainly do that with no problems.

Canadian Pricing wont be the same -- even tho canadian dollar = us dollar now anyway

yeah im not trying to run crossfire.

the onboard out + the 2 outs from the card would only work with an ATI card (has something to do with catalyst setup) but 3 monitors is a little much for me.. im more worried about compatibility issues -- or is this a non-issue and both card will be fine?
i'm theorising that since the mobo is ATI based (amd board) then it would work "better" with an ati card.

that's stupid

compatibility issue? between the mb and the video card? shouldn't be a issue.
Just make sure your power supply has the appropriate connector for the video card so supply the additional power it needs.

btw since the new card has dual head, if you want to run dual monitors, you still can.

I always preferred nVidia. I've had problems with ATI in the past.
