Default what do you think this sound is?

it's my girl's 2000 cavalier. that faint "scraping" noise in the background. i have no idea what it is. any guesses?

hmm, might be a/c. i don't know if it was on or not then.

It sounds like its coming from the front leftish part of the car. Maybe not the left but at least somewhere in the front. It would stop and start, and we noticed anytime we were at a light or braking, the noise would stop.

The A/C was on but it was on low.

The car has been making other noises too for the past week or so. I'm just concerned about my car breaking down on my 3hr drive home after graduation.

If the sound goes away when you put on the brakes or when you are stopped, it's most likely the brake pad wear indicator dragging on the rotor letting you know your brake pads are getting low and need to be changed.

If that's the case, you could make the drive from home from school, but it will be a rather annoying trip.
