Is the SpeedBooster worth the extra $20?

no, because you'd have to get a new adapter to really take advantage of the speedbooster feature.

wrt54g crew checking in...

Speedboost is only useful for transferring files between computers or if you're streaming music/video to another computer. For connecting to the internets, the wireless is already way faster than the modem without speedboost.

Ok so I picked up a WRT54G2 last night at BB for $45 (since they don't sell the original model without the speedbooster.) Anyway, the router seems to be working great.

However, now I'm having serious issues when trying to use my wireless. Every time I try to connect to the wireless network it will work for a minute or two and then I'll get a BSOD.

I haven't used it in a couple years and I think that may be the problem.

I have a Compaq WLAN Multiport W200 wireless card and since I got my computer back from being serviced almost 2 years ago I haven't used the wireless. Apparently when they reinstalled the OS they didn't setup the wireless card. Anyway, I've been trying for over an hour to resolve this by trying to find the drivers and have gone from no wireless connection, to a wireless connection with a BSOD and now I've just disabled the wireless for now.

Yea, sounds like a driver issue.

Could be another app that's trying to connect via the wireless and tanking the wireless drivers with it, such as an IM client or spyware, email, weather updates... anything like that could cause issues with drivers.

Well, I've got an icon in my system tray that says "Compaq - No wireless network card driver present" but I thought I had installed the drivers already. Does that have anything to do with the fact that I have the wireless turned off?

Maybe I should save myself the trouble and just go pickup a 802.11G wireless card for $40 and call it a day. :hs:

Well a new wireless card would probably be easier than trying to fix an older one.
